Since receiving my life-changing diagnosis, I have made a commitment to myself to not only follow a gluten and dairy free diet (because I have to) but to also have the most whole diet possible.
People often ask me what I eat since it seems like I just can’t eat anything. I am always shocked by this response because to me, I eat A LOT of really delicious food! Now aside from eating a whole diet of organic fruits, veggies, free-range chicken and eggs (I do not eat red meat) there are some pre-made packaged foods that I absolutely LOVE to have a few times a week (they make me feel normal, haha).
I follow a strict gluten free and dairy free diet because I have Celiac Disease and a casein intolerance. Â Before being diagnosed with Celiac, I followed the Standard American Diet (yuck, I know, I’m cringing just writing that). Like I mentioned earlier, I follow the healthiest, most whole diet possible. Even though the foods I am about to show you are all packaged, they are still free from harsh unnecessary chemicals and additives and are Non-GMO, Certified Gluten Free and some are even Certified Vegan too!
I’ll stop babbling on and just show you my gluten and dairy free pantry now, okay?Â
DaiyaÂ
If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that I absolutely LOVE Daiya products. This brand was one of the first that I came across after I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Â They make THE BEST gluten free, dairy free and vegan (all certified) pizzas, salad dressings, cheeses, MAC N’ CHEESE (this was my first discovery and it was probably the best day of my life), yogurts, cheesecakes and more! I have tried a majority of their products and below you will see my top picks.
Their Mac N Cheeze is one of my favorites and I have multiple boxes on hand at all times. They offer 3 different flavors: Cheddar, White Cheddar with Veggies and Alfredo. All of them are delicious, I do not have a favorite and I recommend that you try them all! It can be difficult to locate Daiya products at your local grocery store depending on where you live so I usually just order this variety pack off of Amazon.
Not only do I absolutely LOVE their mac n cheeze’s I am O B S E S S E D with their Salad Dressings. They make three flavors: Homestyle Ranch, Creamy Caesar and Blue Cheeze. My favorite would have to be the ranch, with caesar coming in as a close second. In my opinion, both of these taste the same as any regular ranch or caesar dressing would. I have never been a fan of blue cheese, so unfortunately I have not tried that flavor. But, if its anything like the other two, I think the taste will be pretty spot on! You can get the dressings here: Homestyle Ranch, Creamy Caesar and Blue Cheeze.
Their Pizzas have to be the best gluten and dairy free pizzas I have found to date (they are certified vegan too)! Making a gluten and dairy free pizza from scratch can be done, but as I have found, it is more expensive to purchase ingredients to do so rather than just purchasing a frozen pizza. They have 7 different pizzas to choose from: Cheeze Lovers, Supreme, Fire-Roasted Vegetable, Margarita, Pepperoni (vegan) Spinach and Mushroom (their only pizza made with white sauce) and Mushroom and Roasted Garlic. I have tried every flavor except for Pepperoni which they just recently launched and Spinach and Mushroom which I just discovered while writing this blog post (I screamed because I had NO idea this beautiful creation existed as I haven’t seen it at any stores near me). Since this item is frozen, you need to pick it up at your local store and you can use their store product locator here.
GoMacro
Like any Celiac, having quick and easy snacks on hand at all times is essential to surviving (okay, that was a bit dramatic, but you get the point). I really enjoy having a quick trail mix or a hearty protein bar on me at all times. My favorite would have to be GoMacro bars! These bars are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and come in so many different flavors! They are also Certified Gluten Free, Vegan, Non-GMO, R.A.W., C.L.E.A.N. and Kosher. I always have at least a box of these on hand at a time. My favorite flavors would have to be Protein Pleasure (peanut butter & chocolate chip), Prolonged Power (banana & almond) and Cherries and Berries, although, every flavor is good! I highly recommend that you give these bars a try if you haven’t already.
*Side note, these bars do in fact contain oats. I CANNOT tolerate oats at all, but these bars DO NOT have a negative effect on me whatsoever.*
Enjoy Life
Yes, I really do enjoy life! (I shouldn’t be laughing as hard as I am right now about how ‘punny’ I am.. ok Angela, get it together the people just want the good stuff!) This brand is truly a LIFESAVER. Whenever I am craving some chips, chocolate or cookies I can count on Enjoy Life to be there for me. Their entire, yes ENTIRE, product line is free of the top 8 allergens! They offer 56 mouth-watering products that I just love SO much. Obviously, if I went into detail about all 56 products you would be reading this until tomorrow, so I am only going to share my top picks!
One word, COOKIES. I have loved chocolate chip cookies my entire life (I mean, who doesn’t!?) I will never forget the true heartache I felt the first few days after being diagnosed with Celiac thinking that I would never be able to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie ever again. Boy was I wrong and I am glad that I was because Enjoy Life has THE BESTÂ Crunchy Chocolate Chip cookies I have ever had. I have at least one box on hand at all times for when I am just craving a little bit of sugar (we all deserve a little treat now and then).
And also speaking of cookies, they have the best chocolate chips! So if you are more of a from-scratch kind of person, these are for you. They even have them available in mini bags if you want a little chocolate snack on the go! They also make chocolate bars in ‘milk’ chocolate, dark chocolate and even a rice crunch (tastes exactly like a crunch bar!) I use their chocolate bars to make my infamous GF & DF s’mores!
Last but not least, they make the best chips. They aren’t your classic potato chip either, they are made out of lentils and called Plentils (great for those on a low FODMAP diet). These chips are AMAZING! I love the Margherita pizza flavor for when I am craving pizza! The garlic and parmesan ones are also to die for. If you haven’t tried any of their products out yet, I highly recommend that you try these out first, you will not be disappointed.
